The squad looks good in the forwards, apart from being one tighthead short.

However the squad looks completely unbalanced in the backs.  Heinz the only back-up scrum half, 5 wings, 1 makeshift fullback and our 2 best centres both being injury prone.  Our first choice backline is good (except fb), but our squad depth is poor in almost every position bar wing.

6 back three players and no full back. Seems odd.

On the whole it's as expected. We look very strong in some positions, but less so in others, and a RWC squad should not contain average premiership players.

My main gripe is that some of the players in there have very little experience when Jones could have given them game time. It's fair enough having bolters who will understandly have little experience but in other positions, most glaringly at 9, Jones has had ample time to give these guys some decent experience

The suggestion that Daly is not a full back is simply nonsense.  The high ball is not the strongest area of his game but that does not mean he is not a fullback.

The view that he is a full back is one that is held by a number of rugby experts. By way of example only (among many others).

Jones is on records saying Daly's best position is fullback. He has also said Daly is one of our world class players.
Dai Young is on record saying Daly's best position is full back.
Jason Robinson is on record saying Daly's best position is full back.
Jeremy Guscott has said that Daly is England's best back.
Planet Rugby voted Daly in the 6 Nations team of the year at Full back.
Ruck Rugby voted Daly in the 6 Nations team of the year at Full back.

Are all of these people wrong?

I have absolutely no doubt at all that Daly will excel at the world cup.  Brown is no longer test match quality (as much as I love him).

If Jeremy Guscott said that then it's confirmed: Elliot Daly is NOT a full back.

Yes all those people are wrong.

He's also not going to be playing a lot of club full back any more as Sarries have at least 2 players (probably 3) better suited there.

Being weak under the high ball in the current game does unfortunately make you a bad full back in the same way that being bad at scrummaging does in fact make you a bad prop.

It's not a role someone else can always be there to bail you out and it's already cost England several tries and one match to my mind.

Don't know if 2003 World Cup was the last time Quins only had 2 players in the squad or not but, that didn't work out too badly!
Though I'm not expecting the same outcome this year!

Biggest concern for me is only two tight heads. As far as I am aware non of the Loose heads can play both sides.

No, but didn't Cowan-Dickie play TH once upon a time?

Eddie Jones shows last four years meant nothing

"Sunday’s debutants were able to perform in the comfort of their home stadium in front of an 82,000-partisan crowd. When the chips are down in a must-win quarter-final, will they be able to cope with the pressure of cut-throat knockout rugby against the world’s best? The simple answer is we don’t know, because they have never faced this scenario before. And when it comes down to the crunch, Jones is putting a huge level of faith in the untried and untested."

Did anyone else see Daly’s tackle stats from Sunday? 2 tackles made, 4 missed! Oh dear he needs to vastly improve here to be a useful fullback.

From the Indie

"Jones also confirmed that, in agreement with the Premiership clubs, he will be allowed to call-up additional players over the remaining warm-up matches only in the event of injury, and given the issues currently on his hands he will add lock Charlie Ewels, flanker Matt Kvesic and centre Joe Marchant for Saturday’s return fixture with Wales."

Robert Kitson in the Grauniad says that Marler is the TH cover.

The one he missed for the 1st Wales try was shocking, he got side stepped 5m before the tackle. He needed position himself to force the Wales 9 to step towards the touch line, really quite basic last man defence.
