Forum Rules

Forum Rules

The ComeAllWithin forum provides you with the ability to communicate with other Harlequins fans and supporters in a similar way in which you communicate with your friends through social media.

A basic summary of the rules comes from the 1960s musical "Hair" where they said

"Kids, be free, be whatever you are, do whatever you want to do, just so long as you don't hurt anybody."

Play the ball, not the person!

Do not make personal remarks about other posters, about individuals mentioned in posts, or about other commenters. We encourage committed and passionate debate, but ad-hominem insults or insinuations are not part of this.

If all posters agreed with each other, a forum would be a dull and unenlightening space. But there are ways to phrase dissent without resorting to foul language, incivility and SHOUTING. Even if you believe what another poster is saying is unreasonable, express your response in a reasonable fashion. Respect each other as human beings.

No swearing

Any profanity/swear words in forum users' communications will not be tolerated. Do not use numbers, abbreviations, misspellings, ***** or some such  to avoid the profanity checker or obfuscate profanity/swear words. We cannot control the age of people who read these boards, so bear that in mind when you post.

Stay on topic (everyone is guilty of this!)

Of course we want discussion to be as wide-ranging as possible, and we understand that conversations can take unexpected turns. But we’d like to make the forum a place for people to talk about the topic in front of them. Resorting to generalisations or dragging the discussion off on a tangent that is not pertinent is boring and repetitive and kills insightful debate.

Do not start a new thread when there is already a thread on the same topic.

Cyber bullying

Although forum users are encouraged to express themselves and their point of view, there is certain content that is inappropriate, including content which is deemed at the forum moderators' sole discretion to be:

  • Threatening in any way or intimidating, harassing, bullying or showing disrespect for any individual or group;
  • Illegal, libelous, defamatory, derogatory, demeaning, discriminatory, deceptive, malicious, abusive, offensive, or hateful towards any individual or group;
  • Racist, sexist, homophobic, offensive on the grounds of religion, nationality or demographic group.

Do not make comments which are threatening or harassing or which could be perceived as such;

You must not hide your identity, impersonate anyone else or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.

You may not have more than one user account for the forum.

Safeguard personal information

You must respect the privacy of individuals. This means no posting of real names, phone numbers, addresses or any other private information.

You are encouraged not to post such information even about yourselves, as there is no control how that information may be used beyond the forum.

Personal messages are just that. Personal between you and the sender. Do not make their contents public without the permission of the other party.

No trolling

You must not engage in antisocial, disruptive, or destructive acts, including "flaming," "spamming," "flooding," "trolling," and "griefing" as those terms are commonly understood and used on the Internet.

Having a different viewpoint to other posters or holding views that are not palatable to all-comers is not trolling if those views are sincerely held. However, don’t be provocative just for the sake of it. Equally, if you feel someone else is being deliberately provocative, don’t respond – it only encourages them. If you feel strongly that a post made by another user are deeply offensive as outlined in these guidelines, let us know by reporting the poster.

Rules re punning

For some reason some people seem to feel the need to produce puns based on the thread discussions. While seemingly harmless, this can be irritating if others are trying to have a sensible discussion. Trying to accommodate both sides, the rule is that a thread which has not been posted on for 48 hours is fair game for puns, but threads that are more recent should be left alone.

No selling

No non-rugby solicitations or advertisements are allowed unless first agreed with the Admin. This includes advertisements for your business, your own online endeavors or the latest get-rich-quick scheme.
