A rumour? One person saying something is not a rumour, I'm not even sure it counts as speculation!
However and why ever he's gone, lets hope that the coaches remaining sort out the team (squad?) soon.
I feel that there has been too much rotation for any sort of decent team performance and some members of the squad are not looking very sharp. I know we've been hit by injuries to key players but it doesn't excuse the poor performances from the rest of the squad.

Gustard is a joker!!
Harlequins are 0-3 without Alex Codling , Gustard chased him away .
Last season Alex Codling left in February because of Gustard and they lost 5 in a row . Harlequins directors made him see out his first season deal

Not saying Gustard is lying, but the brevity and tone of the announcement do not suggest lots of love and best wishes going with him ...
I saw codling doing a high intensity fitness class at David Lloyd’s the other day, I don’t think it was due to illness ha ha

I'll take what you say at face value, but I would still suggest that you don't get to an RWC semi-final and miss out on the final by small margins without a decent forwards coach. And Wales' lineout has operated very well in recent years...
Obviously Gussy will pick someone he deems to be the most likely success story for Quins anyway.

I went on a CPD coaching course a couple of seasons ago that he was leading and when asked some very good questions by some experienced semi-pro level coaches, his answer was "just smash them harder".
I also have a few friends within the current Wales squad and all of them say he is grossly underqualified for his role and offers nothing in the way of tactics.

Crikey, hope that's a joke. McBryde is the biggest cowboy going! Hasn't got any nuanced forwards coaching intelligence to pass on.

PG said he'd been doing the lineout coaching this season. He said Codling had these health issues and eventually he had to make a decision based on what's best for the club, so I infer that they gave it until about now, but with no sign of improvement they made the tough decision. Perhaps thta's why it looks hurried. He said it was completely amicable parting of the ways. Said he can't coach lineouts indefinitely, he has other jobs, so he's looking for a very experienced coach this time to balance the relative lack of experience in our current coaching team.

I think people might be reading too much into this. If as PG mentioned, Codling does have health issues, maybe he does not want it out there for everyone to know, maybe he his happy to slide away quietly. Maybe he was just brought in for a short period, do his thing and then go. Maybe we wanted someone else who was not available until after the WC so he stepped in to fill the void till then. Does not have to be cloak and dagger stuff. Coaches come and go. Maybe he has had an offer he cant refuse. No reason to thing there has been a big falling out etc. As said earlier, he never really hangs around anywhere for a great deal of time.

That's a bit of a blindside. Hope he's ok, if the stories about him being in bad health are in any way accurate. However our forwards haven't been tearing up trees so maybe no bad thing if we have a decent replacement lined up.
But again — if it was all to do with personal health issues then surely they would have issued a nice, long, appreciative kind of communication to say a huge thank you and so sorry to see you go, our best wishes are with you and your family etc. etc.?

There is probably lots of coaching teams disbanding after the WC so could be that we have picked somebody up or Gussy doesn’t think we need him any more. Plenty of comments on here about a lack of line out consistency so maybe he just wasn’t good enough.

Pursue other options is the phrase that suggests to me that it's not his choice. But that's just guesswork. Either way, I wish him well.
It will be interesting to see who (if anyone) comes in, or if they just restructure the coaching set up.

To leave two games in with no warning or currently no details of pursue other interests is very odd.
Paul Gustard normally has some comment on newbies and leavers but this brief sudden statement implies to me either ( hopefully) an imminent arrival that he isn’t happy with or an internal falling out.

You'd have to admit that the language is interesting though: "parted company".

You can't infer anything from a short statement except that it is not a long statement. Perhaps he's been waiting to hear about a job and it finally came through and he's offski. Perhaps Harlequins have a new forwards coach coming and he elected to leave, but on friendly terms. Perhaps he had a stand up row with the two Davids.
You just can't tell. Guess all you like, sure, but the brevity of the statement suggests it has been put out at speed, but not the reason for the speed.

HARLEQUINS COACH ALEX CODLING HAS PARTED COMPANY WITH THE CLUB.
Codling has worked as the Club's Forwards Coach since June 2018 and was a key part of the coaching team last season.
As Alex leaves to pursue other opportunities, Harlequins thanks him for his hard work and wishes him every success in the future.
