Turning to central Twickenham there are tram tracks indicated on Heath Road, King Street, London Road, York Street and Richmond Road. Clifden House sat alongside Heath Road on the corner of Clifden Road, until it was demolished in 1974. Fortescue House is prominent in London Road (later replaced by the Regal Cinema and in turn by Regal House). On the other side of London Road was Twickenham Junction as the railway station was then called. At this time it was located on the western side of London Road until it was rebuilt in 1954 on the eastern side.
Twickenham Junction was the confluence of roads in Twickenham, King Street, London Road and Richmond road. There was a large traffic island where the three roads converged, with a underground public lavatory down the steps.

I have rarely bought food at the Stoop outlets. The fish and chips used to be good and decent value. Not so now. I had the worst burger I’ve ever had and paid £8 For the privilege. I should have asked for my money back but was with others and decided not to make a scene. The general consensus seems to be that the food is very poor so why don’t we all just not buy any at the ground .

One of the options I miss at the Stoop is one they had a few years back where one food stall had large pans of various food like curry, chilli, other "ethnic" foods, depending on weather/time of year etc. You could get a decent warming serving of rice & curry for a reasonable price.
I also miss the old Mulled Wine stand in the winter months, where you could get a large flask of mulled wine for £12, with the flask part of the price. It was great for those cold winter months to sit in the stand with some hot mulled wine you could drink during the game to warm you up!

As a vegetarian rugby fan (surely an oxymoron, you say!) I am really gutted that my options have been reduced this season. The goat's
cheese and sweet potato pie was great! Now they have the pasty corner. Which means me 'enjoying' the odd combination of Thai curry vegetables in thick Cornish pastry! Nice!
I used to brag to my guests and opposition fans about the excellent choice and really good quality grub over the last few seasons. This season? Hmmmmmmm.
P.s. My dad, son and nephew are all meat eaters and are a bit disappointed with the fare this season too.

The fish and chips at the ground was really good last season. This season, not so much.

I gave up with food at the Stoop a long time ago. The hilariously mis-named Divine Burgers were unpleasant and the macaroni cheese, on the one occasion I risked it, was actively nasty. Never again.
-
So the pies go but the macaroni cheese stand survives...
The Macaroni Cheese. The only food I have ever written to complain about in my life.
Sub school food standard

"Walk up to “The Junction” as it was once known"
I have only lived in the area since the turn of the century - so, for interest
Where is this area and what are/were the pubs?
-
Most grandads seem to work on a basis of 1.5 trips to the gents for every pint... you must have a huge bladder! :)
Or a prostate like a bowling ball!

Pint in “The Albert” by Twickenham Green
Walk up to “The Junction” as it was once known
Swing a left where the Birds Nest use to be…
Pint in the Eel Pie
Pint in The Fox
Swing a right for a pint and leak in the Webb Ellis
Pass train station, swing a left…
Chippy for Saveloy, mushy and chips
Stoop Kings bar for pint to take to seat (yes, well before ko unlike some)
Half time… Jolly Hog
Full time… walk back to Prince Albert
Sorted!

Five pints before the game , how many after! I must be a total lightweight .

Prefer the chippy near the Webb Ellis these days.

Kicked out in favour of Quins new branded outlets and DJ booth. Barnaby Sykes are still operating elsewhere.

We pretty much gave up buying food at the ground when the JH went downhill sadly

We tend to buy something on the way, or eat before we leave home.
-
I have told you all before.
Bring a bacon sandwich from home.
I’ve said to the boy that in future we’ll grab something at Waterloo in future.
It grates because I believe supporting your club and generating revenue, but they always tend to try to pull your pants down.

, watching people who didn't pay joining that queue
Yes I clocked that a few times as well. Maybe Mr Sykes went bankrupt?!
-
Have you not considered paying £7 for chips with 3 lowly chicken goujons served by someone that pro-actively tries to look insulted at having to serve?
It’s a 90 minute journey across town for me to feel like I’m in Ilford in the SWC.

Just when they were getting to a point where they were nearly competent, they're gone.
How I enjoyed queuing for ages to pay, then being sent to a separate queue to get the food, watching people who didn't pay joining that queue, then finally getting to the front of the second queue and finding they'd sold out...

The 5 stages of grief and loss are: 1. Denial and isolation; 2. Anger; 3. Bargaining; 4. Depression; 5. Acceptance.
Not sure I'll ever get beyond #2 - Anger at the loss of the best pies ever to grace the stoop.
Chips (£3)+grubby sausage (£4) now stand in the way and I for one can't accept it.
Bring back Barnaby Sykes?
