I remember my first game in 1996, and this club is miles away from then. We have come miles in 25 years.

Seen Quins win 3 cup finals (at game) and lose one - hated and loved different times - but always a Quin. Travelled 500 miles from Uni for one day and game. Can not wait to take my son and daughter to a game!

Love it!

It was an admiration of his tackle technique which was pretty comprehensive. I am ignoring Pen & Inky's obvious reference to a different sort of tackle.

I can't control what you hear at work, in your home or in the playground. I can control what is posted on this board.

I'd urge everybody to re-read (because of course you have read them at least once) the rules of the forum regarding swearing (top of the left hand menu). If you're finding them unclear then do let me know.

Is this a reference to being "Winterbottomed"?  ;D

I have been watching Quins since I don't know when.

An early game I recall, I saw Quins play Scarlets in the days before leagues when we didn't have The Stoop. It was played a t Twickenham and I remember sitting in the old, wooden, West Stand.

Being born and growing up in Twickenham supporting Quins was the logical choice.

30+ years for me. I know, I look too young. I also remember us losing to Bath in the cup final at Twickenham to  a Stuart Barnes drop goal in extra time. The days of Skinner, Winterbottom, Langhorn etc, and one stand and a ditch around the pitch. Yes, we've come a long way!

Well, I’ll tell you what for! I’ve never been a coach but if they continue to eff up the coaching and lose the dressing room, why not put some signs up: “Dressing room this way”?

I've been following Quins for longer. In all that time we have been a team who have been consistently inconsistent. I enjoyed winning the Premiership and the various cups but recognise that along with most clubs we can't hope to compete in a league with a team who "wins" trophies by cheating year in and year out.

Personally I don't see what slagging of the club you support at every opportunity achieves and that if I gained so little enjoyment from following a club I would find something else to do with my time but that's just my opinion of course.

We don't always agree, but on this I'm with you 100%

I've been following quins for 20+ years, and I've grown tired of watching us year on year fall further and further behind the pack when it comes to competing with most teams in the league. Ask yourself, when was being a Quins supporter actually "enjoyable?" or the fact you looked forward to watching a game rather than turning up hoping for the best. Stockholm syndrome in terms of accepting defeat has set in with a few people on here and I wont accept the standard the club has now become.

If Gustard has lost the dressing room like JK did then we must have a very fragile minded set of players. I do not think this is the case, I agree with the discussion on the BBC Rugb pod with Jones, DC and Ugo. We don’t currently have a DNA or style of play. Therefore the players do not know what they’re supposed to be doing keep it tight. Expansive or any other style. This also leads to our lack of game control 4 kicks of high onl 2 were effective from MS against a press defence?

We need to sort out how we want to play - The blue Print
Message it to the players
Let them execute it
Accept. It will not work straight away but with our squad it will and We’ll see success.

I think it’s a correct observation. Discipline going out the window, Sinklers attitude, no real cohesion. Makes perfect sense. It wouldn’t surprise me if Gustard does go, which he should, that we hear from former players (probably Sinks when he moves on) how toxic things were with players frustrated at the lack of proper direction

People keep going on about letting Marchant go to the Blues.  If the rumour is true (and yes, only a rumour) it was that or risk losing him for good.  I can imagine the meltdown had that happened.  As for Sink, only my view, he is off for the money.  Another rumour (yes I know) that he would have stayed had the price been right does not suggest he is going for rugby reasons (and no issues with that).

We have a good squad, it has been killed by injuries. Thats not to take away from some poor results and performances, but lets not forget the good performances and results.  And that applies to pretty much every prem side this season barring 3.  Re Gustard losing the dressing room, maybe he has, maybe not but I cant really see any concrete evidence at the moment.  Of course if you look for something hard enough you will find it.

A combination of this & the brain fart of letting our best young player go on loan for the 2nd half of the season effectively saying the season is over in terms of top 4.

I’m hoping they are planning a big clear out of the old guard. Drain the swamp & start again with more street wise players.

So much to disagree with here.

Letting Joe Marchant go - what were the options? For all we know he may have left for NZ of his own accord, permanently. Would that be better?

The season is over - after 8 games out of 22, with us 5 points off 4th place?

A big clear out of the old guard - removing whom, exactly?

More street wise players - who is available, that we can afford, and keep under the cap? And should we get what are known as journeymen, simply because they are street wise? Or are we looking at seasoned pros? And if we "start again", how long would you give before you complain that we're not making progress quickly enough? This is PG's first full season, so it could be argued that until he's had a full season then you shouldn't judge him. Otherwise you will end up changing DoR mid season again, and again, and again, always looking for instant success.

BINGO! I wondered how long it would be before we heard that Gustard had lost the dressing room!

I do wonder if the current unhappiness (allegedly) in the squad is because Gustard/Millard have told some of the senior players they have to take big cuts or go.

I think Gustard has lost the dressing room, the way we’ve played isn’t a case of we gave it our all and we’re outdone by a class outfit it’s been very abject, disciple has gone aka Marler etc.

Might be too early to call with Feb/early March being the indicator. I think it will be either us or Irish personally

...porous defence.

A note on porosity: it is the state of having lots of spaces in matter - for example rock - but not necessarily joined up pores.

Permeability however, describes a body full of interlocking and joined up holes through which anything can pour through, like any opposing team at the moment...

Rock

If you'd asked me 18 months ago what a performance from a Gustard Quins team would look like I certainly wouldn't have pictured last Friday night. I really thought that we'd be hard to score against. The most alarming thing this season (apart from the high error count and terrible discipline) has been our porous defence.

Said Irish or Worcs at the start of the season, going to stick with that.  Not sure they have the depth when injuries start to build up.  Irish are about to lose their SA lock (as part of his deal he is is going on loan to a Japanese side).  It will be interesting to see how Tigers get on during the 6N though,  going to lose a few players and if they were to have a bad run they could find themselves in trouble.  Had a good win against Bristol but m not sure Bristol are the Rugby Messiahs that some think they are.  I said on another thread, barring Saints, Exeter and Sarries all the rest have had good moments and poor ones.  Another season where top 4 is there for the taking if anyone wants it

I reckon we could finish anywhere from 4th to 12th. There are quite a few average and inconsistent teams in the league and relegation will go down to the wire. After Friday night I'd be happy with 10th...

After the weekend's fixtures we are 8th on 17 points.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/rubbish/rugby-union/english-premiership/table

The two games that were played yesterday (Sunday) gave the right result as far as we are concerned. Northampton and Exeter are out of rubbish. Irish and Wasps both lost, which was 'good' for us. We also have the buffer of Leicester who are performing worse than us - if such a thing is possible!

I don't think there is any danger of relegation this season - fingers crossed. We are close to the top six in the league, but not close enough. The way we are playing, I think this is going to be one of those completely nondescript seasons where we go nowhere.

Where will we finish? My forecast - 10th.

Edited.

You're a brave bloke. Apart from the top 3 (Exeter, Northampton and Glouchester) and potentially Sale, who look like they have a well-balanced (Full of Saffers) squad, one that will not be too affected by six nations call ups.

The rest of the teams can beat each other. Even Leicester look to be getting things together....!
