Wish I'd never mentioned it....apols to all readers, other than these posters ;-), for my careless spelling.
-
Oh yes it will!

Unless it was a clever adjective, in which case you jumped too quickly and could get into trouble...or even worse, you might spark yet another episode of childish bickering.
All together now ..... oh no it won't!

I would be amazed if anybody would sign off on any plans which would reduce disabled parking.
There is no way that they will be able to reduce the availability of disabled parking.
Not withstanding the fact that almost certainly a compulsory part of providing any level of venue parking - Dalrymple is not the kind of bloke who is going to let that be an issue for the club.
You can't trumpet (and I'm not saying it's not 100% genuine) inclusivity then end up in a row about disabled access.
On that basis I'm sure all such fears are unfounded.
-
I would hope that there will still be the same number of Disabled Parking spots & it's regular spots that are reduced. But NS has a point. Looking at the images shared and the Google Maps grab, it does look like the area that's being used is the Broadcast truck area & a little bit in front of the current Gate 1 structures.

There has been no mention of the words ‘member’, season ticket holders call them (us) what you will only spectators - a totally different rhetoric coming from the Club. The only mention of STH is under ‘price increase’
I think the table that Lauri showed us was our 21/22 prices v some of the 22/23 prices already announced by Sarries, Chiefs and Tigers. I maybe wrong but all 3 Clubs STH are moaning about their increases which came out sometime ago. I think everyone was expecting price increases so no great surprise there. But I was just surprised that no questions were asked about re-instating relegation, if you are not in the fight for top 4 or top 6 what are you playing for?
As for comparing soccer with Quins that was a joke I presume?
I became a STH in 2000 because I could not get a seat for a Bath match. No doubt there will be others standing by for those who drop out this time by natural wastage and choice.
-
I agree.
The brewery is great value.
But, if there was an option of a good "pub" in the ground, then I would have my liveners there instead
-
It’s good to see more bars. If they want more fans in the ground before kick off, they need to be more competitive with selection and pricing. Personally, I sail close to the wind and often stay in the Webb Ellis for as long as I can.
-
I better buy my tickets in the North Stand........... :P
Seats will probably be more expensive in north than south ….. more bars, toilets😄

If only we could moot you eh FF ;D
(Sorry, couldn't resist!)

A good point one benefit of this new seating area is it should reduce overcrowding in the Robshaw bar
No you should only be allowed in before the game if you sit in the North stand, that way supporters can quickly get to their seats without the need to walk halfway round the stadium 😉

More/Some undercover seating - great, this is needed, however, will need to be controlled tightly to avoid overcrowding if its wet or could turn into a mess with sheer numbers.

Now, what some may not like. To be clear I'm not a season ticket holder, and there was a backlash from some fans when the members bar was restricted to Prem & Gold only, why not have this new area for the Club and Touchline members.
Non-season tickets fans could then use the Kings and other bars which would have reduced traffic as a result therefore bettering the experience for all and having the plus for the club that when they do increase season tickets they can add the value of a another 'member' bar for club and touchline.

There will be local parking standards for new car parks which dictate a set proportion of disabled spaces to standard spaces. Existing car parks affected by new development will normally fall into this camp too. Don't think it's a legal requirement as such, but that's a mute point.

From my view:
More bars - great, the stoop has always been a pain to get beer or even a coffee at half time and closer to kick off, other premiership ground have far more bar/refreshment facilities and this can only be good thing to better the experience.
More/Some undercover seating - great, this is needed, however, will need to be controlled tightly to avoid overcrowding if its wet or could turn into a mess with sheer numbers.
New Gate - great, better access for all
New/expanded Shop - OK, I understand it but I normally shop online

Just a thought.

It's worth a try. There's sure to be a certain legal requirement of the number of spaces a public sporting facility has to provide.

By setting the new fan village so far back in what is currently the car park I think it clearly shows they intend to replace the north stand sooner rather than later to increase capacity and need the immediate space behind
Watching the evening talk again just now, Laurie appears to be indicating a new stadium is now more a long term goal with short to medium term being including this new fan village in the North stand, replicating it in the south and expanding the stadium where possible - north stand seems to be the most obvious place.

Deadly, I suggest you also contact the club directly sa well to make your view known. They may be able to answer your issue.
Have done several times but responses were opaque to say the least. Might ping LD a note though...

In total there are 6 Disabled Spaces by North Stand Entrance and a few round by Langhorn Drive Entrance currently. This has NEVER been sufficient even before we started increasing crowd sizes...

I have contacted Richmond Council on this matter and have asked for a reply. If anyone else is so moved here is a link...

I'm disappointed that this plan seems to do away with Disabled Parking Access which is already extremely limited.

I didn't spot anything about this in the planning - is it mentioned?
I thought that the only bit that we were losing was the area that the broadcasting trucks park in. Now, clearly, they will need to park somewhere - but not sure there is any detail.

You don't think Quins are even thinking about using the Stadium as an option in case of works overflow into the season?. Bad management if that wasn't on the table.
While it may be a fallback plan, I would say that it's extremely unlikely to be required. The existing stand & infrastructure (including the new loos in the North Stand) are unaffected & can carry on being used even if work stretches into the new season. The work can be boarded off from the public easily without impacting on ground capacity, fire/safety access & exits etc. The one part that would affect these (the new turnstiles/ticket office structure) will be the first part on the build & completed & tested in a few weeks. Look at the existing area and the planned expansion:

Don't forget that the area where the food/drinks vans are now wasn't even accessible by the public a couple of seasons ago. If that area were blocked off again (albeit with access from the stand to the toilets that are now installed), there's no reason why the Stoop couldn't continue to be used at full capacity even if there's an overrun.

Personally I'm sure they are thinking about it but I agree with FF. Both can quite easily be true.
We have played across the road enough times in the past not to need to test it to see if it works.
-
As somebody else posted a while back.
This could be why Quins are playing over the road 21st May.
Maybe testing for using the Stadium during building works.
I could buy into this theory, but there are possibilities of Europe QF and Prem Semi that could come after the Gloucester game.
Would we move those?
Maybe it is to gauge the take up for just a "normal" league game.
I'm fairly certain that the Big Summer Kickoff is actually a joint decision by Quins & the Ah Eff Ewe, and it's nothing to do with the Stoop Improvements just announced. We missed out on Big Game revenue in 2020, and the RFU missed out on revenue from all the internationals, BG, Other Events over the course of the various restrictions over the last couple of years. We have a good record (better than any other club) of drawing in crowds to big event games like this. The RFU will be keen to make some money (as will the club) and this has the benefit of being something fresh (as opposed to the little-missed LDH) to draw in crowds. Plus it'll give Gloucs fans a long awaited chance to visit the Big Stoop when it's warm for once!
-
Looks like a decent improvement assuming there's no loss of bars or catering outlets. The covered outdoor area looks good and something that will no doubt get plenty of use. It shlould also spread the gatherings of people away from the south end a little.
Who is Ronnie Pickering :-)
I'M RONNIE PICKERING!!!! All cyclists should have to line up to the right of the drivers if said roundabout was named after Ronnie Pickering.

I really like what they are doing here. I guess there’s only so much they can achieve in the close season but anything has to be an improvement if there’s more space within the ground. The small roundabout is submerged whenever we get significant rainfall. I wonder if they can resolve that?
-
It looks cool, but I hope there are plans to put more than just seating in the massive undercover area, the video looks like there are less bars/outlets than there are now...
-
that looks great

iii) Making the space covered but heated means that they can offer this as an extra onsite venue for after game activities even during the winter. At the moment if it's cold/raining the only real options for people to go are the Honours and Kings bar. Once they're full, people will go elsewhere, taking their money with them. Add in this area & you now have another option.
I think that we also have to acknowledge that Covid hasn't "gone away".
There is always a possibility that restrictions could come back and indoor bars may be out of action for a while.
I am assuming that the roof of this area can open to make it classify as an outdoor space.
If so, this indoor/outdoor bar area could be a very canny investment.
-

Most exciting thing for me is what looks like automatic turnstiles!
-
That's just more food/drinks/concessions stands.
As for why they are doing this rather than the original plan of a 25k stadium, I would guess there's a number of factors:
i) As the club have said, they're running closer to capacity that ever before. That means that key areas like the Fan Village in the South/SW corner gets very busy. If they can spread the demand over other areas of the ground, that makes managing the fans getting to their seats easier. It'll also reduce bottlenecks like the one you get between the S & E stands that is always an issue.
ii) Adding this area is a lot quicker than building a whole new stadium! They can potentially use this to get permission to expand the North stand as a medium term measure on the way to a complete new build.
iii) Making the space covered but heated means that they can offer this as an extra onsite venue for after game activities even during the winter. At the moment if it's cold/raining the only real options for people to go are the Honours and Kings bar. Once they're full, people will go elsewhere, taking their money with them. Add in this area & you now have another option.
iv) Why haven't we just bought the Council land & gone for the complete new build? Well, there's been this little thing called a Pandemic that impacted on everyone's pockets. Plans will no doubt have had to be pushed back a few years. But, in the meantime the clubs' growth in attendances means they need to do something to make sure that they keep the whole experience of coming to the Stoop an enjoyable experience.

It says "Watch the fly through video".
Then "Video unavailable Private".
Que?
It was because the link was posted before the video was made public at 12.00
-
Looks like a sensible plan, though not exactly game-changing. I'd just be happy if they committed to better service on the bars with staff who have actually pulled a pint before. And some better beers!
Until then, this can't hurt.
-
I hope they don’t forget wheelchair users! They forgot to put in a drop kerb to get into the new stand when it was built many years ago!
I don't know if you spotted it - but there is a wheelchair user at the base of the ramp up to the covered seating area

Video should now be live. I can see it on the club's twitter feed.
-
I think that this news hasn't been released yet. I suspect that it is still under embargo and it will be shown tomorrow night.
-
I'm wondering if for the time being they are focusing on improving the Stoop instead of building a new stadium.
I guess we wknt know the answer until:
A- planning permission goes in to extend the North Stand to be similar to the South.
B- Planning permission for a new stadium.

That does look like a decent expansion of that end of the ground & it should have a knock-on of lessening the bottlenecks in other parts of the ground such as behind the South stand. Given the constraints of the river, the council site and the road, it's about the only space they can expand into without changing things completely. I hope they make the video accessible so we can see it (currently listed as Private). I would guess they may want to wait until after the Members event tomorrow evening.
