Disappointed that the TMO and coverage only showed the second half of the incident, though. It happened close to where I was sitting and the French player had been having quite a go at Sinckler before he reacted - and his reaction was pretty restrained in comparison.

I only saw it on telly, so didn't see the build up mentioned by poorfour, but I thought Sinckler was lucky to get away with just a penalty; especially given the earlier "rugby values" chat that both front rows received. Conversely, I would probably have felt a yellow a bit on the harsh side... So perhaps not a clear cut decision.

For example, during England’s demolition of France, Nigel Owens twice required Glenn Newman to check a decision and on each occasion ended his request by appraising the Kiwi TMO of his own real-time view of the incident in question.

Owens’ equivalent of cricket’s ‘soft decision’ was twice proved correct – but despite this approach adding context to the decision-making process it is not one used by other officials on a regular basis.

Only a method used by Nigel Owens and Wayne Barnes, two of the top class referees on the planet!

If a yellow had been given for that's it'd be ridiculous.

I accept though that the use of the TMO is frustratingly inconsistent, the Ireland v Scotland game being a good example

What was the French bloke doing? Punching him? Wrestling him? Kicking him?

He slapped him on the back of the head  .. pretty much the same thing that Kyle did to him .. ive seen a few videos like this one on ERP

The touch judge had a good view but seems not to have said anything. That said, a penalty against France reversed for retaliation would have got us to the same outcome.

Fair enough, but not too serious. French bloke should have been spoken to as well.  But, as Robertquin says, doesn't change the outcome.

Not a patch on White decking Sheridan. At least that was hilarious.

There was a picture - in the Times I think - that showed the French player with his hand on Sinckler’s face - I’m not suggesting it was a gouge - but the paper seemed to imply that it was an illegal contact of sorts.

Sink just slapped him on the scrum cap.

If that ever becomes a penalty, card or anything else then rugby has totally lost it.

The only people who think Nige got it wrong are terminal England/Sink haters -- RugbyPass being one (also nearly everything written on there is total rollocks).
