Not seen it in any other posts today but Luke Wallace has confirmed leaving quins on his Instagram today
-
He would certainly deserve a good send off
-
Currently playing for 7s. Putting himself about but not a natural 7s player I think it’s fair to say
-
As in another thread it would be great to know who they all are that are leaving so we could give them the send off they all deserve. I hope they all do well wherever they end up.
-
I have a feeling we'll get a news article released on the website tomorrow listing the rest of the leavers and where they're heading, as well as a copy in the programme of tomorrows game. Fairly standard practice.
-
I for one, will miss Luke Wallace - I think he was good - but got lost in the coaching jungle that existed before. We may end up regretting his departure.
-
Shame for him he didn't get to play a final match - career on its bottom sadly.
-
Not good enough for the Premiership

Not good enough for the Premiership
Yeah, you're right - not worthy of a shirt - he should play for Dorking. Pah! You're not worthy of much either. Critique on any board is to be expected, but such hyperbole exposes your lack of reason.
-
He’s been a loyal player, for which we should be grateful.
But I agree - he is no longer good enough for the premiership. I never expect to see him in the matchday 23, leaving aside dead rubbers in the premiership cup, for example. Looking at other squads in the league, I struggle to see the situation being different elsewhere.
-
Shows what I know about forwards then! I always thought he was rather good!!!
-
All the best to him, liked him a lot.
-
I have had a season ticket for 10 years and have watched many wonderful and committed players at the Club but I doubt there were any that gave more to each and every game he played than Luke. People who come on here and say cretinous things like "He's not good enough for the premiership" are I suspect Trolls but if not they have little knowledge of the game or what it takes to go out there and play against the best in the country, especially at 6 or 7!
-
one of the best over the ball - been a great servant to the club!
-
I remember him running down the right wing during the Quins v Bath LV Cup Semi and offloading to Williams. One of my top tries.
At his best, he is an athletic, committed back row who makes a nuisance of himself at the breakdown.
Sadly, I was at the Not Not's pre season game where he took his bad injury and I think that he was destined to spend a long time coming back from that. I am unsure that we have seen much of him since then up to full strength and full fitness.
Sad to see him go. He may be arriving at another club in the peak of fitness.
Ps - I wish that I had his golden locks.
-
Not good enough for the Premiership
Total and utter horse poop. Just ill-informed and rather poorly judged nonsense.
He's been great for the club, there was a time when he looked like he might push for England, wasn't the same post injuries and he just didn't seem to be able to adjust his skillset to the way the game has moved on in the past two years (possibly due to the injury, who knows).
Not premiership quality....ffs. Come on.
P.S. Utterly irrelevant to his abilities, but he's also a really nice lad.
-
Luke was one of my favourite Quins players. He's obviously struggled to achieve previous heights since what could have been a career-ending injury, and it's a testament to his bravery and commitment that he returned to competitive rugby at all. There doesn't seem to be a place in Quins back row for a genuine No.7 in the mould of Curry, Broussow, Louw, Kriel etc.
-
At one time s great player for us, first choice and pushing for England. Subsequent questionable tactics and injuries hampered him and we now have better options, for our game plan at least.
Not sure how old he is but hopefully he has time and gets the opportunity to go somewhere else and have a second good run.
Thanks Luke, and thank god the Apollo nickname never caught on
-
Apologies to QP for this - but here is a posting of his from the old board from March 2013 regarding which player had the best hair.
"He's had lovely hair for ages now - I can't believe you only just noticed. I first really noticed he'd grown his beautiful hair when he played against Saints at home last season and won the MOTM award. As I walked from the south stand to the members bar entrance, to meet a fellow poster, I stood by the ad hoarding to applaud the approaching players, and could scarcely believe it when Lukey came over and hugged the lady next to me and Jammy. I offered him a manly handshake and told him he'd been incredible that night, although my rapidly beating heart turned my voice into a barely audible squeak.
How do you know Luke, I asked the lady, to which she replied - he's my son. Wow, said I, you must be proud of him. Very proud, she replied. Unbeknownst to Mrs Wallace I had recorded our brief exchange on my Android smartphone (unlimited calls & texts, 1gb data per month).
The following week Luke again got MOTM at home against Gloucester, although sadly it wasn't very sunny that day so his hair didn't deliver the golden qualities I had dreamed about the night before. Never mind. After the final whistle I made my way to the back of the south stand for a smoke and to play Luke's mum on my headphones.
With almost military precision, by the time I was near the players' lounge in the east stand bar, Luke immediately walked in with some fellow players. His hair was still damp from the after-match shower, but the golden strands nearly blinded everyone, and the mood in the bar imperceptibly heightened. It was too soon though - I hadn't had time to prepare for his entrance. He walked past me and I gazed longingly at THE HAIR, finished my 8th pint of AG and belched playfully. Nick Easter gave me a look of disgust, but I barley noticed as I followed every bounce of Luke's famous locks, while the dog-eared photo of George Lowe fell from my fingers.
It was too late. The moment had gone. I was so transfixed by THE HAIR that I forgot to pass on my congratulations to Lukey. I somehow felt let down, but I knew it was my own fault. Later that night, with the smell of The Room at the Top dancefloor etched into my forehead, I wrestled myself into my Mike Brown pyjamas and cried myself to sleep listening to Luke's mum on the headphones."
-
Sad to see him go. He was undoubtedly a player with a huge amount of potential but his peak years coincided with when Quins were rubbish and the injury robbed him of enough pace to take away his point of difference.
Best of luck for the future, Luke.
-
sorry to see Luke go, as many have mentioned that hip injury sustained in pre season would appear to have been the start of it all - he did fantastically well to even come back from that where many would not.
as well as a great player and ambassador for the club over the years he is a true gent - i had the pleasure of meeting him at a pre season event arranged by himself and Mark for the foundation - lets not forget the great charitable efforts on his behalf, the visits to India were something that quite clearly moved him, the videos shown that night clearly demonstrated this.
also worth noting that throughout this whole event he was on crutches!! great player, great bloke, great ambassador and ultimately a great servant to the Quins family.
Thanks Luke - you will be missed, hope you get a great send off that only the stoop can provide.

I model myself on a budget Luke Wallace for all the reasons above. Not sure I’m managing to entirely pull it off (on or off he field).

I'll be sad to see him go. A real gentleman. As some have said, he used to give his all to the games he got to play in when I saw him. I met him on the way to the Saints game a few weeks back. Really nice fellow and he did say he would have liked to stay with the club but Gussy had his mind set on the current squad and no-one was getting a look in. At the time, he had no concrete irons in the fire but Sale and Gloucester were interested.
Good luck on the next journey Luke!
-
My wife's favourite player and at his his best, one I always enjoyed seeing on the team sheet. Sadly, the game (Quins game?) has moved on and the years/injuries have taken their toll and its hard to disagree with the decision to let him go. Hopefully to somewhere where he can make a useful contribution and surfing and mountain biking will sustain him when the rugby days are over!

I thought we'd just signed Evans from Leicester for exactly that purpose.
-
Best of luck to a great servant. His injury was horrible and I was fearful that he might need to retire. Credit to him for even getting back onto the pitch.
I really hope he finds a club that can accommodate his undoubted skills and his own style. He deserves it.
Best of luck Luke.

I knew qp used to be funny. Thanks for confirming.

"Later that night, with the smell of The Room at the Top dancefloor etched into my forehead"
Where was "The Room at the Top"? Was it the name of the upstairs bit of the Cabbage Patch?
-
Sorry to see him go. A great servant to the club who, at his best could have made it into the England squad but doesn't seem to have recovered from an horrendous injury.
Good luck in whatever you do next Luke.

Fully agree sorry to see him go. He’s been a great player for us. Met him a few times very decent chap and always had time for a chat and photos with the kids. Wish him well and hope he’s a the Stoop tonight.

It was the special interest room in the Piano Lounge.

Oh
-
Nope, you were correct, never sleep.
-
I was in the shop buying a cushion and Luke Wallace and Dave Ward were beside the till signing jerseys. After paying, I put the cushion down to open my bag to put it in then realised that Dave had absent mindedly written his name on it with a marker pen. Luke just looked at him aghast as Dave realised what he'd done.
-
I'm sorry about your cushion, but that's hilarious!
-
Actually, I'm quite proud of it - Luke signed it afterwards and it's a great souvenir.
-
Great player, outstanding gentleman, once a quin always a quin. Go well Luke and thank you
-
Luke has been a superb player for us in the past, he's struggled a bit coming back from such a bad injury but he desrves better than some of the statements on here, sorry to see him go but probably the right decision for the club at this time. Wish him luck with his future, any news on where he is going?

...a horrendous injury....:)

Why not 'an' horrendous injury ...?
-
Why not 'an' horrendous injury ...?
Quite right! It may be a little old-fashioned but definitely not ungrammatical.
-
It is not a silent "h". If I'd made that mistake at school it would have been magazine down your trousers time.
-
That isn't the rule.
-
It's do with the stress on the first syllable, I think that's what Deadly was getting at. In any case it should be 'a' before horrendous.

Oh be fair - he made no mention of that. :)
And the stress in horrendous isn't on the first syllable. At least not the way I say it.
-
This "grammar" thing is getting weird.

Quite - grammar school boys, I don't know...

Has Luke been signed up by a top club yet?
-
Not as far as we know
-
As far as I am aware nothing announced but The Rugby Paper did mention he was heading to Leicester with Evans coming the opposite direction.
-
Do Leicester need another winger?
-
Pretty sure he’s not got a club.
-
And yet the suggestion that he is no longer premiership quality gets shot down completely. As I said above, he was a fantastic player for us. But I can’t see him regularly making a match day 23 for any of the teams in the league. That takes nothing away from his previous service.

The suggestion was that he wasn’t - not that he’s no longer. It may have been phrased incorrectly if that’s what was meant.
-

TBF just because he hasn't been announced anywhere doesn't mean he's not signed anywhere.
