I'll be watching on TV but will definitely be cheering for Clermont. Even though we lost it was a great trip. Thanks for your hospitality
-
Thank you for the support Jonathan,
We have tonight our best team available,
so I am carefully confident.
Let's cross fingers,
cheers

I agree the best team won and happy that my favourite French team came out victorious

Well what a great job Stuart Lancaster has done for Leinster.
Come on Leinster!

Why would you want a foreign team to beat an English team?
-
I can't decide. I'm half Irish and feel a bit dirty supporting Saracens....
-
GOD I WISH I'D SEEN THIS ON THURSDAY!!!! :(
-
Difficult to split the two as they have both flagrantly abused the spirit and ethos of the game in the professional era but going for Sarries because they're a Prem side.
-
Try and think of it as England v Ireland if that makes it easier. I want England to win.

Why? its 2 teams I don't support in a final? Why should I support one over the other based on nationality?

Don’t then, it’s ok, no one really minds.
-
So, does that result mean that we are definitely in the champions cup next year no matter what the other results are?
-
That commentary alone made me support sarries for 80 minutes. Terribly bias
-
BRILLIANT!!!!! SICK AND TIRED OF SEXTON AND IRELAND GENERALLY!!!!!!!!! :)
-
Have to tip a fez to sarries. That was a huge performance. Congrats.
-
Cracking game. Well done Saracens.

Which commentary were you watching? I decided to watch on Channel 4 and thought it was good to get some new voices for a change...
You've got to think that the RFU are going to go after McCall as EJ's successor now, especially because the Ireland job's taken by Farrell Snr...
-
Joe Gray, Champions Cup winner
-
Superb from both sides. Will Quins ever be as good as Saracens?
-
Congrats to Sarries
-
Congrats to Sarries. A great big game performance. I thought Irish rugby was supposed to sweep all aside this year?
-
Why would you want a foreign team to beat an English team?
Hello Domestos
Simply because I appreciate Stuart Lancaster and that he was 'thrown to the wolves' in 2015 and I don't particularly appreciate the Saracens.
-

I think it's called patriotism.
I was a bit surprised how much I wanted Saracens to win.

On the flip side I don't appreciate us getting humiliated in our own world cup!
I was very happy to see Sarries win today, particularly in the manner they did - essentially bullying most of the Ireland team - and the England boys had a blinder.
-
Well done sarries. Seriously impressive performance. Not s fan but really don't like Leinster and credit where it's due they are a seriously good team and looked like they could have scored more.
Shame strettle didn't get on. Gray gets a winners medal presumably
-
Slightly off subject but ... as he's been mentioned a couple of times. Joe Gray doing a good job as Head Coach of Barnes in National Two South.
-
As a kind of aside, why do people dislike Leinster so much? A close friend of mine from Dublin is a season ticket holder there so I’ve seen the (mostly) ups and downs of recent years through his eyes a bit. There’s something perhaps that’s harder to warm to than the other Irish teams but I can’t put my finger on what it is. Is it just the sustained success?
Notwithstanding that I was pretty neutral yesterday and thought the right team won on the day. Pleased to see some key England players putting in a really good shift.
-
I thought this was one of the best rugby displays at any level I’ve ever seen. Not a Saries fan but a display to be proud of, and I’d be thrilled to think Quins could produce 80 min of rugby at that intensity and skill level.
-

I am not sure we do dislike Leinster - do we?
Test question.
English club plays foreign club. Whom do you support? (Generally speaking?)
That's all it is.
-
Yeah for me it was English club plays Irish club/province more than anything. I prefer Leinster to Munster though and have no particular feelings about Ulster or Connacht. I also find a fair percentage of holier than thouness comes out of Irish rugby and the sky obsession with them wore a bit thin.
-
Leinster fans can really grate, and Sexton is incredibly irritating - Leinster, like Ireland, appeal for everything, usually led by him.
The booing of every decision that went against them yesterday really makes a mockery of the idea that the Leinster fans are all about the good of the game, especially given their self-important shushing of the crowd whenever someone is kicking...

Depends who the two clubs are. I have a soft spot for Stade Francais and would always cheer them on (except against Quins of course). Cant say I have any real love of any other English clubs but would always cheer them over the Celtic sides.

Agree with all of that.
Plus, their cheering of Itoje's yellow card is not in the right spirit of the game, is it?
I await the arrival of a Leinster fan to point out where we misjudge Leinster.
-

Out of interest, Banstead, how have Leinster abused the spirit and ethos of the game?
I thought it it was a smashing game and Sarries deserved winners. As mentioned above, I'd love Quins to put in a total rugby performance like that - hopefully at Wasps next weekend, to finish off the season in style!
-

Yes, I was wondering about that.
-
Yes, I was wondering about that.
As nobody else seems to want to, let me ask specifically how Sarrys, and Leinster, have devalued the spirit and ethos of the game?
-
Sarries because of salary cap cheating and some pretty ugly behaviour on and off the field over a period of time.
Leinster, dunno. They're definitely holier-than-thou but that's far from the same thing.
-
Only thing I can think of is how if any Connacht player gets half decent, they're immediately sent down to Leinster but that's an IRFU thing AFAIK?
-
I think it's called patriotism.

Patriotism doesn't need to come into it for me, it was 2 club sides. I didn't support either team during the game, really enjoyed the game, but was also really pleased for Sarries.
-

And they lost Joey Carbey in similar circumstances, so it evens out a little bit.

That was so he could get some starts to help Ireland rather than warm the bench.
Whole system is so much better for the national side than ours.

“Plus, their cheering of Itoje's yellow card is not in the right spirit of the game, is it?”
We would do excactly the same at the Stoop only louder -I think you are being a bit pi there!

Agred I detest Munster after their fans behaviour at the Stop but the Leinster fans were great.
No Sarries fan for the obvious reasons but will always want an English team to beat one from elsewhere.
-
I think I dislike Leinster due to the previous Sky love in (same goes for Munster) and general smugness. All this "best fans in the world", "drop of the black stuff", "great craic" stuff irritates me somewhat. I also think they play pretty dull rugby on the whole.
-
Sexton didn't play for some time but was "fit" for the big game.
Just saying, like.

To be honest all, that's the main reasons I don't have support for Leinster or the Irish success in the 6N. You can't knock what they've achieved in Europe but it is built off the back of being able to rest their main players who play less minutes than their English counterparts across a season but always ready for Europe and Internationals. How good would all of our teams be and England if the key players missed 6 league games a season? Of course, we as fans wouldn't stand for it because we have a strong club game and a competitive league.
If I ever get a day to do it, I'd like to go back over the lat 5 years and compare all of the league playing minutes for the top international players.
-
Sounds like it was a good game, shame I missed it.
Sarries are a very good team. In the UK, they're the best that (unlimited) money can buy.
If I were Nigel Wray, I'd have bet one of my houses on Sarries winning...

Not sure that that is abusing the spirit and ethos of the game - and, as you say, you'd welcome it except that it would (rightly/wrongly?) deprive us/you of watching the players we wish to and have paid to see all season. I am not sure all theIrish players get as much time off as Sexton - he's older than most of the team and is a critical part of it - his absence allows his tenure to be extended, keeping him out of trouble and allows his understudy time to fit in/drive his own style - it seems like a good model to me. And if the rumours of ring fencing are true, something that the RFU may well do or be equipped to do, soon, if Clubs can be persuaded to release their English players more often.
There were some stats published at the end of last season - I don't recall where - that showed that for that season, some of Leinster's International players had played about half the time played by those playing International rugby for England.
A quick search illustrates this:- https://punditarena.com/rugby/smcmahon/difference-game-time-ireland-englands-top-players-startling/

What a fantastic weekend it was in Newcastle.
The Clermont fans were brilliant - travelled in numbers - the challenge cup game was much better than i expected. Played at a fast pace with lots of offloads a joy to watch.
The Main event however was a fantastic game of rugby. Sarries were phenomenal and thoroughly deserved it.
The Leinster fans were brilliant, Newcastle was a sea of Blue, definitely outnumbering the Sarries Fans. Spoke to a lot of Leinster fans and they were a good laugh and even in good spirits after the game.
hopefully one day we can see Quins in a Champions Cup final...
