Title: What sticky threads should we have?
Post by: Fearless Fred on Wednesday 20-Jun-2018, 10:46*
Just thought I'd kick off the discussion. I'd suggest the following:

General Board Rules
Current Squad & Contract status
O/T Never-ending Word Association thread
General Helpful resources (things like good streaming sources, travel links for the various away clubs etc.)

Are there any more we should have?

Looks a good start to me - might try and put a single sticky leading to a page of stickies - but the content looks good

It looks to me like you can have multiple boards/forums on this site... what about:

"ComeAllWithin - Quins Chat"
"ComeAllWithin - Useful Info and Rules"
"ComeAllWithin - Rugby Chat"
"ComeAllWithin - Everything Else"
etc...?

So threads/topics can be put into the correct "pot" and then people won't complain about seeing threads about England games, or Women's teams, or whatever the dislike du jour is.

I was about to agree with you at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I actually think this should only be done as a last resort. I've looked at other sites where they have multiple boards, and it looks like while the main boards is generally well used, other "sub boards" are rarely used or even visited, & often wither into nothingness after a while. CAW managed to keep all the threads lively (even the O/T ones). I think as long as we come up with a convention where people can see in the thread title if it's one they don't want to bother with, we can keep it all on one board for now. I suggest starting thread titles with the following:

How does that sound?

Mri the stickies to a minimum otherwise it kind of defeats the point. I like your first plan DOK. Don't have split boards, the general banter (much reduced from years gone by) is what has made CAW fun. As long as people clearly title the post I dint see any problem with OT stuff on the board.

I suggest starting thread titles with the following:

  • O/T - General non-Rugby related topics
  • Womens - Anything related to the Quins Womens team
  • Internationals - Anything related to international squads
  • Other Clubs - Put the club's name at the start of the thread title

How does that sound?

I'm happy with the O/T type stuff IF it isn't obvious from the title. If the title says "Eddie Jones tells Mike Brown to keep cool" I don't really need an "International: Eddie Jones..." but if it is "Coach in sacking scandal" then if it could help to give people an idea what we're talking about.

I'm not a huge fan of separate boards, I'd rather see everyone mixing it on here. If there is a split it's over the ladies' team, and I think we'll just see how that goes this season. If people really find their enjoyment of the board spoiled by posts about the ladies then maybe a separate board would be a better solution.

Sounds reasonable to me

Grand. For the record, I'm happier like this, just thought I'd offer alternative options.

One of the things I've seen on other message boards is a primary sticky entitled "Read this first" or "Read this before posting" or some variant thereof, which includes links or posts within it that include all the general rules, resources etc. After that, unless the sticky is for a subject that is relevant for a period of time, I actually prefer not to have too many.

I wouldn't split it up. Too many places to look and people won't look at all. We'll fall short of critical mass on all four of them.

I'm intending to have one link (might be a sticky) labelled "ComeAllWithin Information" or some such and that would go to a page of links to other things, like QUINSSA buses, rules of the forum, how best to use these boards etc...

I tried on the SportNetwork boards to limit stickies, but didn't have the options that I have here.
