Tigers interested in Lynagh, but we will do all we can to keep him etc etc
We are interested in Wasps Lock Tim Cardell
-
We certainly need another decent lock
-
I think that Lynagh will be behind Green in the pecking order now, so he may not get much game time.
I wouldn't blame him for leaving.
-
We could sign Dan Carter in his prime & still be rubbish.

Id be looking at Lynagh as a potential replacement for R Chisholm

Lynagh is only just out of school (literally - he was at Hampton until last year) and so I'd be very surprised if he has an expectation of breaking straight into the first team. I would guess that he will be being positioned as a replacement for Brown, which makes it a question of learning his trade and biding his time; Browny can't keep playing forever, much as we might want him to.
Green is more a utility back and I suspect we will have to see where he slots in. I wouldn't be totally surprised to see him alternating with Marchant at 13 long term; from what little we have seen of him there is some similarity in style.

Just been this on Twitter
Tom , son of @LynaghMichael is set to follow in the footsteps of his father joining his new @Reds_Rugby team-mates mid next year on a two-and-a-half-year deal from @Harlequins
-
Who is Tom?
-
Just looked it up. Tom must be his younger brother.
Her is 17 and currently in our academy

Fair point. I was thinking that Chisholm would be around for another season or two, in which time Lynagh steps into that squad place. When Brown (and Care) finally go, I would expect a "Big name" signing to come in, finance permitting
-
Maybe the big band will be in another position. We're seemingly well stocked at 9 and 15. Maybe it's the back row that we desperately need? Pieter Steph du Toit?
-
We do need a BR. I still wonder if one is coming soon, The link to Di Carpentier is only for a short term deal. Looking at the big picture and the squad, without knowing contract situation we could...
Lose
Baldwin - No need to replace. Plenty of good options at HK and come the end of this season the younger ones will be more experienced.
Money saved
Young - Would need replacing, with a better option
Outlay needed
Cavubatu - Likewise would need replacing but Tizzard/Hammond should be looking to step up
Money saved
Botta - A better option required.
Even
Landajo - With Steele and the new chap from NZ you could argue no replacement is needed. We would still have Care and Stafford.
Money saved
Chisholm Snr - Green/Lynagh takes his pace in the squad
Money saved
Ashton - Good signing for us but once this season is done, I would look for a younger quality option
Possible outlay or evens at least
Campagnero - With the options we have, no replacement needed
Money saved
Care - If he goes, quality replacement
Evens
Brown - As Above
The above would leave a decent bit of cash free to sign a quality BR.
-
A statement signing like Du Toit would be undeniably exciting however, given our biggest issue is inconsistency, if we are going to splash the cash then I would argue that we should be looking at players who are going to be available for Quins week in, week out.
Covid aside, I'm not sure we have the finance to go down the Bristol route (e.g. a Piatau, Luatua).
Would we not be better signing two or possibly three good quality premiership players instead of one superstar who misses a third of our games?
To my mind we need a few players to bolster the pack who, a bit like Robshaw, you can hang your hat on to give you at least a 7 out of 10 performance every single week without fail.

I have seen a bit of Cardell on TV and he looks player with a great pedigree in U16, u17 England Rugby.
He is 6'4 and is listed as a back-rower. However, when he has played for Wasps he is a second row. He must be the lighter, athletic lock to be that size.
So could be a hybrid player, however not the big beast that we are crying out for. I still think Jason Jenkins from the Blue Bulls would be a good shout. He is a unit. Not any basis for the rumour, just think he could do a job for us.

Sounds Welsh, no ta.
-
We need Eben Etzebeth. What’s he up to next season.
-
He will be called away by Internationals and training camps all the time. We need players who are available to play in most games like Lewies has done. Not superstars who are over the hill.
Look at Sale with the Du Preez brothers. They have turbo charged Sale.

And as a result, they were called up into the Boks squad 😢
