Title: "Not considered for selection" -- now we know...
Post by: Gone on Friday 07-Dec-2018, 12:51*
Well ok so actually we now have no clue....

Today's team sheet says Care and Sinckler have been rotated out, and they are both under the "not considered" list.

We had reached the point where we thought this was not available (on international duty for example) or injured.

But it's not.

Visser is injured, we know this as a fact because he tweeted a picture from hospital.
Care is rotated, we know this because the club just said so.

They are both on the list.

Bothma? Cat? Are they injured or just not good enough. But if they're not good enough why aren't they in "not on any list" status like Walker.

Tapuai - rested, injured or good enough to make the list but not good enough to be selected but still better than not making any list at all?

AAAARGH my head hurts.

What?

They're not considered because they've been rested.

If they're not on the list they have been dropped/not selected.

Way I see it, not considered means that. Be it rested, injured or not playing well enough.  Anyone not on the list and not in the team must be fit, considered for selection but not made the team.

It's quite obvious what it means - they were not considered.  That is either because they injured, rested or otherwise unavailable (e.g. international).

If a player is considered and is not in the squad, then they just didnt make the cut

I think Care and Sink being "rotated out" will be to do with EPS player rest days. So it means what it always did - injured, rested, or on international duty. And wasn't it you who recently responded to one of these threads with "who cares?" Blucher (I could be wrong, but if I am then... who cares?!)

Nope not me. Maybe it does make sense. Either way if I was Walker i'd be looking for another job.

That's pretty certain, as all the Squad members from the AIs have to have a "game off" over the 3/4 weeks following the AIs.

Yup, can't see Walker staying now. Shame really - if he could sort his defence and general concentration out he'd be one hell of a player. I do want to see Earle and Ibitoye given a real chance to nail down the wings though and with Murley looking as dangerous as he is too, it just leaves Walker and Visser on the outside looking in. I think both will probably leave and neither of them will have an issue finding a club to give them regular first team action. Could see them doing well at somewhere like Newcastle.

Yes, I think we know what "not considered for selection" means.

On the wider point of player rotation, I like the way Gussy is doing this and, as he says, "trusting the squad" and challenging other players to step up. It almost feels like something of a novelty! Under JK and Conor it seemed to me we rarely rotated, with the consequence that when we came to the business end of the season we had little left in the tank. In the semi-final playoff with Saracens at Allianz Park about 3 years ago and I remember we were well in the game at half time. But the sun was shining, it was the horrible plastic pitch and the boys visibly wilted 2nd half.

Last season, partly because they were "last man standing", Robshaw (as always) and Luamanu played a ridiculous number of games. But you get the feeling the squad will be in better shape to play big games in the 2nd half of the season this time. In part, this is because some of the experienced lads aren't being selected for England so much, but also because Gussy is challenging the whole squad to step up, including youngsters like Ibitoye, Dombrandt, Saunders and Murley.

Yes agreed. Rotation is vital to get the best of the team at the end of the season

We have, in the last couple of years, been unable to rotate due to more than half the squad being injured. This has led to players being overplayed and then getting tired and picking up more injuries. This year the cycle seems to have been broken by luck or a new approach from the conditioning team.

But we still totally outsung them on their own patch so we took the moral victory.

We outsung them until their psyops team turned the music up to earbleed levels.

See Gustard mentioned about the “Not considered for selection” in the recent ask Gustard videos, it makes sense from a club perspective to not give out details about injuries etc, but as a fan it’s frustrating not getting any updates.

I hear what PG is saying and have to respect it, he’s the professional coach not me. But I find it hard to believe that professional teams rely on press releases for information on injuries. If an opposition  coach wants to know whether Horwill is fit yet surely they get one of his Aussie mates to text and ask him? Or however the rugby grapevine works. And in any case that point could be achieved with a little bit of vagueness about exactly when a player is due to return, it doesn’t need a full information blackout.

To be fair JK did the same and so did Deano. So it may be a Harlequins thing. The "not considered for selection" is all Gustard though.

" ... " And in any case that point could be achieved with a little bit of vagueness about exactly when a player is due to return, .." and send this board into meltdown yet again.
