Where do we go from here?
« on: »
After another shambles, again at home, I think I am realising that my long-term measured and reasonable view of our future really isn't tenable any more.

I have no confidence that any of our senior men's team coaching staff are going to be able to turn this around, even in the medium to long term, let alone this season.

Time to change the whole lot. We should also think about moving on our Strength and Conditioning team, given the continual, lengthy list of absentees. Also everyone currently in charge of recruitment and retention.

We need to completely separate the business side (where LD has been very good) from the rugby side. We need an experienced, heavyweight Director of Rugby who can appoint the whole coaching team and be in charge of recruitment and retention and playing style.

If the owners (who have been terrific for the club for so long) feel they can't afford the related costs, then it might be time for new franchise owners who feel that they can.

Get a decent DOR in and two new props and a hooker, and things can turnaround very quickly.

I couldn't tell you what the gameplan was today and ever-changing selection points to muddled thinking.

Baxter is class and Delgado has looked reasonable in the few minutes he's had, but our next best options are academy players (Hobson and Streeter).

Hooker remains a massive issue and the reluctance to play Turner has been farcical given how poor Walker has been.

Difficult to put a gameplan into action when you can't get at least parity up front and secure your own ball.

Find someone who can coach the line out and scrum. I don't know what's happened with Adam Jones. We used to have a dominant scrum. Does he just not have the material to work with? Or is not able to do it anymore?

Not the materials, I'm my opinion. A poor Gloucester side on the whole but you'd take VRR and Fasogbon over Kerrod and Williams any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

So what would the excuse be with Delgado and Walker? Both are internationals, but neither look it.

I really don't think it is about the costs, the club could make a profit, it is about recruiting a DoR and head coach who can give the team direction and having a succession plan, for when people leave.

Someone buying the club, would likely invest in enlarging the stadium as a 20-25k stadium makes more sense than the big games, or moving to a. Racing 92 type of stadium to give another revenue stream.

The main problem all the clubs face is the TV rights deal is about half the amount it should be, a decent deal would make every club except Saracens and Sale, who are never going to make a profit, viable investments.

Let's please stop calling Walker an international like he's some kind of 50 cap stalwart. Scraping into a few squads as third-choice a few seasons ago doesn't make him international class.

Why "should" it be twice as much?

The point is that he has at some point been in the top four or five hookers in England. If you can't keep him at a decent Premiership level from there, then you're doing something wrong.

Just applying the average increase for sports tv rights over the last 15 years gives you around £90m, which is still less than the top 14, the alienation of Sky has stagnated the market as only TNT have been in the market.
Really needs one of the big streaming companies to bid, as TNT are not a particularly stable company at present.
Very few sports have in real terms gone backwards, like the prem rights have.

Worst run since 2000 remember Bathputting 77 points on us,
Newcastle just gave Saints a real fright today, we have
Bristol away
Sale at home ( Champs cup)
Bath away
Sale at Home
Newcastle away
Chiefs at home
Sarries away
Saints at home were does anyone expect the next win to come from, and how dare will the clubs finances be as was obvious today a good few empty seats

I think Sale in the cup is the best chance of a win. Can't see us winning another prem game, the mentality is just not there.

The Top 14 is irrelevant, as are other sports TV rights. The Prem TV rights are only worth what someone will pay.

The Prem might need someone to bid twice as much but no company will pay that unless they think it's worth it.

EPRC made a huge mistake overvaluing the Euro Cup TV rights.

I hope that the club realise that a remote technical appointment of s DOR or what ever they are calling Deans. It feels that there needs to be root & branch change amongst the coaches. Hopefully Lawrie has started the look out for new DOR and give them the choice over coaches etc..... we have plumpted so low that things need to change.
