I think a fair bit of the issue for coaches is the wide geographical spread from which we draw our support. For many I'd imagine The Stoop is a bit of a diversion on the way to away grounds. It would be for me. Plus many of us probably have Butlers who drive us.
And the away performances prior to last season probably made a fair few people not bother going away if the team almost seemed to write it off the moment they took to the pitch.
