Cockerill

With Edinburgh 2nd only to Leinster in their Pro 14 conference and top of their Champions Cup table (that includes Toulon and Montpellier), would any of his detractors when he was mentioned as a possible JK replacement like to change their opinion?

I personally would have been very happy with Cockers at the time - but I'm now even more happy with who we got. Think Gussy was the perfect choice for Quins. Has already turned things around to a large extent and I expect him to continue to build on that. Think he has the right kind of pragmatism and seems to have the total respect of the dressing room - and on top of that has brought a freshness to the place. There's quite a tangible positivity around Gussy that's less easy to put into words. Great appointment - fair play David Ellis et al.

Hang on Cookie, I thought you were moaning that we could have had Blackadder at the time!

For the record, I am also delighted with the work Gustard is doing.

I never said I wanted Blackadder. My point with him was in response to all those saying 'well, who would we get to replace him?' The point being, it's not our job to know and Blackadder was an example of one we wouldn't have thought was. Same as Ackerman, Boyd etc.

I wouldn't have been averse to him being at Quins. We did alright with another old Leicester nag in charge for a while :-)

As someone who had him as No1 on my list of JK replacements, have to say I'm happy now with Gustard but Cockers would have been just as good. He's answering his critics on all sides & putting himself into a strong position as potential England coach of the future.

He's done alright, sure. But some perspective: Toulon are garbage, bottom of the pool with a single win. Newcastle are awful. Montpellier are 9th in the Top14. It's by some distance the weakest European group. As for the Pro 14, yes they're second in their conference... with the same points difference as Benetton Treviso, and the same number of wins as three other teams. There's a gulf between them and Leinster, who have 4 more wins already!

As far as I know the fans are happy enough so that's good and a credit to him.
