I suspect it’s the wrong link and that it was supposed to be the Mail report that the RFU is considering Connor O’Shea to be the England interim coach to replace Eddie Jones.

He’s apparently entirely responsible for these stupid ideas including the captain being able to send off an opponent of their choice.

And according to a number of decent rugby writers - and Clive Woodward (who is, admittedly, that rambling old man in the corner of the pub) OShea is totally out of his depth.

“Director of performance” - anyone point to it working recently?. It would be a typical RFU disaster.

Gonna disagree, perfect interim option and would rather they did that than panic into appointing a new coach who just happened to be available. Take your time and make the right appointment and let COS focus on the 6N.

Won't have favourites and will pick players for a system rather than the dirge we're being served up at the moment.

I'm against COS in any  format. His post has been an abject failure. What performance has he fine tuned and overseen? If his PDR objectives included getting worse than I suppose that would make sense.

I'd prefer someone who isn't imbedded in the RFU to come in, we need a proper fresh approach. We need an interim with a proven record and Gatland fits the bill if he wants it. I'd even take Big Sam Allardyce

CoS and Sweeney are as much to blame as Jones. All three of them should be sacked

For me, COS is a repairman, just like Jones is, adept at getting results in the short term from a damaged team but not someone with a long term vision or solution.  England needs someone with the ability to build success over time rather than stick their fingers in the engine to see what happens...

Long term, I agree entirely - but short term? Just to get us past the RWC? It's not rocket science. Pick the players in form in the positions they play for the club. Trust the senior players in the squad to decide how they'll play. Back them to the hilt. Make a few motivational speeches, do a couple of team building stuff with the Royal Marines, a beach holiday rugby camp somewhere warm ...

I've heard worse ideas.

On of the issues with Eddie seems to be that loads of people can't stand working with him.  Regardless of any other qualities, CoS seems to get on with people and maybe that's enough at the moment.

Former Harlequins and Italy coach Conor O'Shea is already on the RFU staff as director of performance, but he is not thought to be a realistic option in either the short or long term

Not the worst news.

My preference would be Gatland, with Borthwick introduced to play a part. (Thats if it's to believed he is the long term option).

Personally I think Lancaster needs a few more seasons at Tigers to get him exposed to all the issues the game can bring (selection headaches, injuries, tactics etc).
