My view is no we don't. Not having one avoids any one individual having too much influence on how the squad functions and performs. I get the feeling each week we are like a kind of melting pot of enthusiasm where everyone feels they are valued members.

My concern is whether this is detracting from what Billy M's original remit to look after the the things like recruitment, backroom staff, support staff etc.

That is my thoughts FF. I think he also deals with stuff for the womens side.  The impression I got was he is happy short term.  Also be interesting how the current set up works when we hit a bad run of form

Aren't they the things under his remit anyway?

My question is  how much of the playing side is he actually needing to be involved in. Just how much of a distraction is it. I guess only Billy will be able to answer that

Putting titles aside, and at risk of over simplifying, there seems to be two questions to answer here; 1) does the club need another person in a leadership role in the Rugby department, 2) do we need someone to come in and lead the Coaching team.

We’re pretty much guessing at question 1, but indications from the club are pretty consistent that the answer is yes.
While we also don’t know the internal workings around question 2, what we’re seeing on the pitch is increasingly suggestive that the answer may be no.

So I think we may need someone credible enough to backstop the Coaching team (without being involved routinely in coaching) and who has the skill set to be the link bringing all the rugby aspects together, enabling us to keep a broad view across all the rugby programmes (Men’s, Women’s, Academy, Age Groups, Schools, Outreach etc).

Seems to me the club could do worse than dig out the phone number for one Mr T. Diprose.

Well I am happy to see how far this approach can take us before reverting to established wisdom.
