AN INJURY UPDATE ON HARLEQUINS FLANKER JACK KENNINGHAM

Quins can confirm that Kenningham underwent successful surgery earlier this week following a neck injury sustained during last weekend’s Gallagher Premiership victory over Exeter Chiefs.

The Club will continue to support Kenningham in his rehabilitation as he looks to return to the field, currently set for a six-month rehabilitation period.

Senior Coach Tabai Matson said: “It’s a real shame to see Jack set for a spell on the sidelines. He’s a fantastic young player who has a great future in the sport.

“We have a fantastic medical team here at Quins who will ensure Jack is well looked after. He’s a tough, determined individual and I know he’ll come back from this set-back and hit the ground running.”

Terrible news. At the time his injury was overshadowed by the red card tackle on Marler. Anyone know how it happened? Exeter are never penalised for in at the side or off feet at ruck, so I wonder if that did for him. Guess it doesn't matter really. Gutted for him - must have been in with a shot of the 6 nations wider squad, even if not the matchday one.

Happens here… if the breakdown was properly reffed in the game, Gray doesn’t come massively in at the side and crumples the ruck on kennigham. Definitely no malicious intent but there is no doubt that Injury is completely avoidable

Bad news indeed. Without Jack or Will Evans or (for 6 Nations) Dombrandt, that leaves by my reckoning Lawday, J Chisholm, Taulani, Wallace, White as official squad backrows plus maybe Lamb and (if/when fit) Lewies and Scotland-Williamson as (out of position) cover. Is there anyone I've missed. Maybe also a chance for Academy players - Trenholm looked useful pre season. Will this be enough?

Wow gutted for Jack. Don’t think we have another player with his skill set. Wonder if we’ll use Lawday at 7 now or maybe look to Wallace or one of the academy lads to step up. Trenholm is probably the most likely prospect to step up. I recently watched his performances in the Dubai 7s and he reminds me very much of Clifford with his size and speed.
