If I moved jobs my current employer wouldn't put out a press release, but my new one would.

I think you got that the wrong way round matey!  ;)  ;)

It's really not.

Didn't we go through this with the French club and whoever it was?

Unless there some condition of announcement because it's a big deal, totally up to them to announce it if they want.

If I moved jobs my current employer wouldn't put out a press release, but my new one would.

Never get the claims of some kind of etiquette on this. It's not like they're announcing someone died.

All comes down to status quo. My guess is your employment isn't part of a market quite like the buying and selling of rugby players. Let's not forget that their wages wouldn't be paid without the fans who support the club so over time a form of common decency has developed whereby, most of the time, the club the player is leaving is allowed to announce the player's departure before his destination club does - normally without saying where they're going so as not to ruin the surprise for the new club's fans, again due to common decency.

I guess I'm being idealist and sentimental but it would be nice to keep that ethos in the game if at all possible. And maybe it's Quins' social media team's fault and they were supposed to have an announcement ready for 10am today or something. Who knows - either way, it would just be nice if this didn't become "a thing". I sense it already is.

I think in essence you should let the selling/leaving club announce first. However if they have had plenty of time to do so and don’t the new club can only wait so long. I don’t know details on this one but failing a complaint from Quins it won’t concern me much

I'm not going to cry about spilt milk, just seen this before (and yes, I believe Quins must have been guilty of it too) and would prefer not to see it again. But yeah, obviously not the end of the world!

Sadder that Josh felt he couldn't push on with us - I could really have seen him and Kyle sharing the 3 shirt in future years if Big J managed to sort out his scrummaging - but he obviously wants a shot at nailing down a regular starting spot somewhere sooner than that and Sarries' ageing prop stock probably offers him that.

This argument is weird.

When Real Madrid sign Ronaldo that’s their announcement.

Who cares about the place he’s leaving?

If Robbo, DC, Brownie left I can see how club might ask to pay tribute first - but a three line press release about a kid, really?

I'm not getting hung up on it and certainly don't feel this is an argument (or at least I'm not spoiling for one). Just think that it would be nicer if the fans of the team the player is leaving were simply made aware that he's leaving before reading that he's joined someone else. Just as a courtesy to the fans who have supported that player for X number of seasons and paid his wages. I don't think that's too much to ask or too difficult for the two clubs involved to coordinate, so it's really just a case of why not? Not a big deal!

In the case of Josh, that's a very short statement. I sense some possible frustration from Gussy there - think it was suggested by someone on here that he wanted Josh to stay so maybe that disappointment is coming across. But I could easily be reading too much into that.

I agree.

I made this same point a few months ago regarding Alofa and got slightly hounded for it. It would be good for them to announce it but I guess Harlequins and the players are free to do as they please regarding it

with no list of leavers yet published by the club. I will be utterly disappointed if they don't before tonight's game

our last chance to say goodbye to players that have served the club so well

If we get to the final - will it be declared as a Home game or an Away game?

Well we don't get to say goodbye to Wallace he's not in the squad, so not sure that works.

I'm sure he'll be in the ground and shaking hands with supporters before, during, after the game. Come on Blucher, you're better than this! ;)
