All football matches face being played behind closed doors
All Premier and Football League matches could be played behind closed doors as soon as this weekend as part of the government's expected increased response to the coronavirus crisis.

Manchester City's clash against Arsenal became the first top-flight fixture to fall victim due to fears surrounding coronavirus, but it is thought there are plans to stage all games behind closed doors.

The government are expected to shift to the 'delay' phase today which is likely to impact football. According to a report in the Times, all matches in the top flight as well as those in the lower tiers are likely to take place with no supporters present.

It is claimed that all Premier League ticket holders for individual clashes will be able to stream coverage of matches in their homes instead.

Supporters of clubs in the Football League, meanwhile, would be able to watch action from the lower tiers using iFollow streams.

Pubs will not be allowed to show games to avoid congestion of people and Premier League fixtures will not be shown live in the Saturday 3pm slot.

Juventus star Daniele Rugani became the highest-profile footballer to have tested positive for the virus last night, with the Serie A club confirming that those who have come into contact with the defender will also be checked.

All sport in Italy has been postponed until April 3 in an attempt to combat the virus.

The NBA season, meanwhile, has been suspended "until further notice" after an unnamed player from the Utah Jazz tested positive for coronavirus.

The league was advised of the positive test shortly before the scheduled game between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.

The NBA said in a statement: "The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of tonight's schedule of games until further notice.

"The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic."[/url]

Nicola Sturgeon is apparently going to recommend cancelling events with 500 or more as from Monday. I'd say we're likely to see an initial indefinite postponement of games for a few weeks, then depending on how the pandemic is progressing either a cancelling of the season or games being played behind closed doors.

It may be a sell out but there's still tickets available on the Sale website.  Perhaps they've sold out the East and West stands but there's certainly tickets available on the North and South stands.
