Based on his peripatetic track record, we may get two years out of him before he moves on.
That may be all we need. I wouldn't be surprised if Quins are looking for two things and two things only:
1) Someone who can take on the Head Coach workload that Millard is currently doing and let him get back to being GM
2) Someone who can work with and mentor the quartumvirate until one of them is ready to step up to the Head Coach role.
If we hire someone who comes in and develops Flannery or Evans to the point where they can take on the Head Coach role, and then leaves without overstaying their welcome, then I would say that's a good bit of business.
Consider the alternative: our current coaching group are young but highly rated and developing fast. Sooner or later they are going to want bigger jobs. I'm expecting that we might lost Flannery back to Ireland at some point, but Evans has been committed to South West London for over a decade now and I think that if Quins can offer him a path to Head Coach there is a good chance he will stay indefinitely unless a top tier international coaching role comes up.
