Team vs Bath

HARLEQUINS HAVE NAMED AN UNCHANGED MATCHDAY 23 TO FACE BATH AS THE CLUB LOOK TO SECURE BACK-TO-BACK LEAGUE WINS.

Continuity is the key theme within the Club’s team selection this week as Harlequins’ coaching team opt for the same matchday 23 that claimed a record-equalling 49-17 win over last season’s Premiership finalists Wasps at the Ricoh Arena.
 
Academy products Marcus Smith and Joe Marchant hone in on 100 appearances for the Club, as Matt Symons, Danny Care and Mike Brown also near appearance milestones.
 
Commenting, Scrum Coach Adam Jones said: “It’s great for us to be able to name an unchanged team this week. We were thrilled with the boys’ performance in Coventry last weekend and we’re hoping to maintain that momentum this week.
 
“Bath are a good team, we will be expecting a reaction from them from last week. I'm sure they will come out fired up.”

Happy with that team, think it would have been harsh to have dropped anyone after such a good team performance. Great to see that we haven’t lost anyone this week though injury too.

The Bath starting XV is fairly strong but that’s a pretty inexperienced bench in terms of forward replacements. Should be targeting a win with these two team sheets.

Quite a physical backline from Bath. Their pack looks a bit hodge-podge though.

When was the last time we saw this?! The same team again!!! Would have been very harsh to change too much after last week. Hoping we can build with another solid performance!

The trick will be complacency and not underestimating this Bath team, which still have a solid team out on paper. I feel a quick start from us and their heads could drop after their recent form.

Yep that backline is pretty decently sized! 11-14 all big ball carriers so going to have to front up well in defence. Imagine that Bath wanted to compensate for their forward pack with some ball carrying in the midfield. Hopefully Esterhuizen and Evans can deal with their threats as I think Smith will be seeing a lot of traffic down his channel.

Wouldn’t be surprised if McNally is pulled before the game - I’ve seen us do this before, put a player in the team with fingers crossed he passes fit on the day

Pro concussion protocols are very different from amateur ones because the player can be monitored closely by medical staff. If they are asymptomatic I think it's a minimum 7 day RTP, and given they played on Friday night it's just about doable. Will have missed some training, though...

Mental that Smith has almost half of Marler's cap count already! At the current rate, he'd have more caps than Brown before he turned 30!

Obviously intl and injuries mean thats optimisitic but still pretty mental

Yep it’s crazy to think Smith is still only 21 and has that number of caps for us. Surely Eddie can’t continue to ignore him, on current form he’s the best fly half in the premiership for me.

Good call to keep the same team, maybe now we will be more consistent in our approach.

Baths backs in particular cannot be taken lightly.

If you look at the players Bath are missing from their likely starting line-up:

     Injury: Underhill, Ewels  International call-up: Watson, Obano, Stuart, Joseph, Redpath, Faletau   


We're missing:

     Injury: Chisholm, Murley (arguably not a nailed on starter)  International call-up: no-one

While it's a shame to have no Quins players at all in the England squad, compared to when we had 6 a couple of years ago this puts us in a much stronger position.
