New Signing! Paul Lasike confirmed (Title updated)
« on: »
Fissler has just tweeted that apparently we're going to sign former Chicago Bear Paul Lasike who plays in Major League Rugby for Utah Warriors. Not confirmed as yet. He's originally from NZ & plays in the Centres...

He's enormous for a centre! 118 Kgs :o

Hopefully it's true as I think he'd certainly offer something different.

Amusing twitter spat.

Interesting that we're potentially getting hium and HAssler, so presumably a few bit of room under the cap. Or maybe it's one or the other?

I did think we were light at centre, especially with Saili's ongoing injury woes.

Back row and centre seem to be positions you need lots of good cover. Attritional.

Nick Kennedy saying on Twitter that he looks like a decent player and good signing, but with some work to do on his defence

Saili looks like he's going to be out for at least some of the start of the season  ::)

This guy looks like a seriously big unit as a crash ball merchant.
Twitter seems to be alive with talk of it, let's see if we get an announcment.
I think we need more depth at centre frankly.
9 looks ok, Calum Waters looked in very good nick in the 7's doesn't always translate I know but could be a very good back up to DC.
If they can all start the season fit and stay that way we're ok at backrow I think.

I particularly like the last clip in the Scotland compilation, where he draws three defenders and passes - that's exactly what we need. Also good at staying on his feet in the tackle and offloading.

If we do get him, I can imagine Smith orchestrating a diamond attack with Lasike and Marchant on one side, Sinck and Walker on the other and Browny coming up to take the final pass. That would force defences to tighten up in midfield and create space for a kick pass to Visser or a long floated pass to either wing. He'd have a lot of fun with that.

It was mentioned a little while ago in TRP that Gustard wanted a big ball carrying back row and had put some names forward.  Maybe that never worked out and we have got the next best thing, a big ball carrying centre.  Those highlights were great though, get over the line and that creates space.
