The problem I have with the Sussex is that you choose your beer from the vast selection from which they will happily give you a taster. You think, this is a fine pint I'll have another, and nearly every time you ask for another its gone. Then you spend the next half a pint getting over the taste difference only to find you can't get a second pint of that either. They don't seem to have a standard range of beer that is always available like maybe TwIckenham fine ales range which I know I like and they shouldn't run out of. They have a few lagers  and ciders all the time which is ok if you want those things.

Perhaps you should use a Wetherspoons pub, they always have a good selection of well kept, reasonably priced beers. Food is excellent, too!

They do indeed have standard supply on taps, albeit they are more craft ales. Big Smoke is their own beer, brewed out of The Antelope in Surbiton. I quite like it. They also have plenty of bottled ales in the fridge.

I can count on the fingers of one hand how many bad pints I've had in there, so I always take a recommendation for a 'light, pale ale'. The staff are pretty knowledgable. I will say that this whole tasting thing gets on my wick. Especially on rugby days when they should dispense with it.

I knew we'd agree eventually. Normally I can happily taste a couple to find something right, rugby days - pick a pint and drink it. If you don't like it, buy something else for the 2nd one, and the 3rd, and 4th...etc.

Thing that's gets me about people tasting a beer, I don't think I have ever seen anyone turn around and say "Ohh no, I don't like that". Just buy a beer and drink it.

I have done this on many an occasion. Or even if I do like the taste, decided that I'm in a hoppy mood rather than a malty mood.

Bottled beers? I find them too fizzy generally. I prefer canned beers usually ie Abbots, OSH, HobGoblin.....

And they're cheaper.

Or there’s Tennants, Hoffmeister or Double D.
