Quins breach the cap.

According to Ali Stokes

"Harlequins have been fined for breaching the salary cap by £12,479.

In accordance with the Regulations the Club will pay 50p per £1, being £6,239.50.

It has been deemed not to be deliberate."

Out of a budget of 7.5million?  That’s hardly anything baring in mind how complicated the whole thing must be. A tiny percentage.

I wouldn’t mind betting that a few if not all the clubs may go over the cap by tiny margins due to the complexity of the cap regs.
Is £12000 that big a deal? It’s hardly going to buy you a super star. I’m sure there is a percentage margin that is acceptable to the cap regulator due to different ways some things could be calculated. A bit like the speed limits. 65 in a 60 zone is over the limit ,which you can’t condone but it won’t get you a ticket or disqualified.
